Orange you glad...

Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an orange). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds. Finally, if you have an ultrasound this week, you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl! (Don't be too disappointed if it remains a mystery, though. Nailing down your baby's sex depends on the clarity of the picture and on your baby's position. He or she may be modestly curled up or turned in such a way as to "hide the goods.")

Prayers

A more somber post from the usually happy me.

I haven't really been feeling right the past few days. My stomach has been feeling a bit more crampy, nothing too serious. But I have this morbid feeling that something is wrong. Of course I don't want to be one of those women who runs off to their doctor every time they feel "weird", but I usually am never wrong about my body. So, just keep me and the babies in your prayers - and that we'll have a super happy appointment on May 8th.

Also, my co-worker found out that her baby has a cyst. I've heard of this happening, and usually the cyst goes away by the 22 or 24 week. So, keep her in your prayers as well!

Another shopping trip!

So Bryan spent the day around the house, and sent me on a shopping trip! I bought a cute shirt and denim skirt at Mimi Maternity. I also found a really great sale on Carter's onesies, so I picked up two (make that four total) gender neutral ones. And then I ran into two of the cutest rompers/dresses, and picked those up as well. With 6 of my friends/co-workers pregnant, if I don't have at least one girl, I'll have plenty of shower gifts!

Also, my mom has bought us our bedding. It is a black/cream French toile, which will work with either gender. Here is what Bryan and I are planning on doing to our nursery, though we'll paint the walls a green color instead. We might also add a few yellow accents, but only because I LOVE this bumble bee mobile!

A Christmas Story

So, while cruising through Toys R Us, I stumbled upon these most adorable sleepers. I bought the last three they had (two pink, one blue) in the hopes they would outfit whatever sex babies we end up having. As I was thinking about buying them or not, I couldn't help but remember poor Ralphie in the movie A Christmas Story!

Also, Bryan got a bonus at work (another one, after the check that sent us to Vegas over Thanksgiving!). Apparently, they earn "safety points" at work for each day they are accident free. Bryan had so many safety points he was able to get a 32" Vizio HDTV for our bedroom!

And of course, he was thinking of what I'd like as well :)

My gross little babies at 14 weeks

Your adorable little fetus (times two!) is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.

I am counting down the days until school is out. I have 26 days left to see my little lovelies, and then it's time for SUMMER!!

Just another post

Whoever coined the term "morning sickness" forgot to add afternoon, evening and night to the name. I thought after the first trimester it was supposed to go away! However, I've been very blessed with not feeling too bad, or getting sick at school. In fact, it seems I only get sick at home when I'm really tired or hungry.

I did not go see Jon & Kate this weekend. Hillary, the girl I was going with, could not go because her baby was sick. So I went out to dinner and shopping with Jamie instead. We ate a yummy meal at Chili's, then I bought two cute tops at the mall. We walked into Gymboree, and I swear May 8th can not come soon enough - I need to know what we're having!!! If you think my closet is full of clothing, you better believe my kids will be dressed super cute. Just a few outfits from Gymboree that I loved:

A few updates

I'm so excited about this weekend! I'm doing lunch with a co-worker, and then we are going to buy supplies for our Indiana Jones Club. We have our exhibit on May 10 at Roper Mountain Science Center (which is being sponsored by Lucas Film!!). At 7, I am going to see Jon & Kate from the show Jon & Kate Plus 8 with Hillary and a few other girls. Hopefully they'll have some good advice, seeing that they had twins and then sextuplets (not that Bryan and I are planning on any more kids after these two).

I can not wait until I start to feel these babies. I know it's hard to believe, but I don't really FEEL pregnant. Sure I randomly barf every now and then, and always have to munch on something. But I've had no real food cravings, and I'm not even really showing. I wore jeans and a t-shirt today, and my kids are all amazed that I'm still the same size. Some of the 8th grade girls said they look bigger than me. I guess I should be thankful, maybe I won't be a beached whale during our miserable South Carolina summer. Plus, Bryan bought me a pool! It's only 12 feet by 3 feet deep, but perfect size for me to read and float in.

Whew!

Wahoo, I have short term disability! Most of the other girls I work with didn't sign up for it so they have to take 6 weeks unpaid maternity leave. For a natural birth, I get 6 weeks paid. For a C-Section, I get 8 weeks paid. And if I have to go on bed rest, I get up to 3 months! So that's $1,100 a month not taxed. Talk about a HUGE relief!

I also have my long term substitute for next year. If everything goes as planned, Mrs. Day (current Science teacher who is retiring) will cover my classes until I come back.

FOOOOD!

So, I finally have my appetite back. And I mean hard core! Today, I ate:
French Toast Waffle
Blueberry Muffin
3 Fruit Rollups
2 Rice Krispies Treats
5 Mozerella Sticks
Half a corn on the cob
GROSS - that is disgusting! In other news, I bought two of the cutest little Carter's Kids pink dresses. I know I probably jinxed my chance of two girls (or even one), but Bryan and I have gut feelings that we're having girls. If we don't, I know plenty of people who are pregnant and having girls.

Stroller dilemma solved!

So yesterday as I was contemplating how much we should spend on a stroller, what we were looking for in one, etc - my grandma from Michigan called. She said she was so happy to take the ultrasound pictures to her Bingo, and that she and my grandpa wanted to buy our stroller! I mentioned that a really nice double is not a cheap purchase, and she said no problem! I'm totally stoked, and I finally picked out the Bumbleride Indie Twin in Seagrass (blue/green). We won't have to purchase any of the other accessories, because they are all included (take a look at the cute snack pack tray). See how cool it is!

The Nursery

We are turning our guest bedroom into the nursery. So far, here are some of the items we are eying:

Now, as far as the decor goes, we'll have to wait until we find out the gender! I think it will be easier if we have either two boys, or two girls. I'm having a hard time finding some gender neutral rooms that I love. Here are few examples I've found on the internet of really cute nurserys:

12 weeks today

I'm 12 weeks today, and here is a graphic representing what our babies look like right now (though they are head to head, instead of head to feet). How cute?!

You know me and clothes

To say I love clothes is an understatement. I have our entire master and guest closets filled to the brim with clothes (and about 200 pairs of shoes). So you know that I'll have to re-vamp my wardrobe for this pregnancy. All I have to say is my next friend to get pregnant after me will have a wonderful hand-me-down wardrobe (since these are our only two kids). Motherhood/Mimi Maternity had some really cute summer clothes, so I stocked up on plain t shirts in cute, vibrant colors. I also bought a pair of Secret Fit capris and jeans. I seriously may never wear regular pants again. I can not tell you how comfy these are! The only thing is I have to wear longer shirts so the belly panel does not show. But the panel is very soft, unlike a lot of Old Navy and Target clothing. Today, Bryan and I are going to Kohls because he saw an ad for maternity clothing on sale (how cute). Here are my finds from yesterday:

Hunt for the perfect stroller part deux

So, I think I've found the perfect stroller. It comes in blue, pink, black and green. Too bad it isn't sold in the US yet. I smell a Canada road trip (to visit my family of course!).

Hunt for the perfect stroller

I have literally spent the past month searching for the perfect stroller for twins. I need something lightweight (my mom will be using it and doesn't need to lift anything too heavy), durable, non-Graco tacky, and practical. Here are some that I've found so far. The last stroller is wishful thinking - the Peg Perego Skate is only for a single baby; they need to make a double!
