Anyway, onto my vent. Of course anywhere I go, I'm stared at like a circus freak. Yes, I have two babies. Yes, they are twins. Yes, they are girls (sometimes I feel like saying I like to cross dress my boys). But today just pissed me off. We had to wait for an hour. Both girls were awake and in great moods - I mean, they are very happy babies. I fed them in their carseats while we waited, which might be a little odd for some people to see. They cooed and giggled and were very in tune with their surroundings. I even took each baby out and let them play on my lap for a bit so they wouldn't go stir crazy.
But the comments people gave me about drove me over the edge.
"You've got your hands full" - from the mother with four children climbing on chairs and other patients.
"I'm glad it's you and not me" - from the dad whose month old baby was wearing only a DIAPER in JANUARY - and he was sporting some new kicks.
"What, your fertility drugs didn't give you 8 like the woman in Florida?" - from the fat bitch, eating her child's happy meal.
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE - mind your own business! My girls were well behaved (and fully dressed). The only good thing about waiting was I had the chance to meet a girl pregnant with twins. I feel very sorry for her, she couldn't have been more than 18 and she had her toddler with her. She had a lot of questions, and I really hope I was able to help her out some.
EDIT: By the way, the nutritionist said the girls were doing so well for their birth weight vs. current weight. They have gained on average an ounce a day and are around 85% for their weight vs. height. Haha, finally caught Natalie's fake pouty face!

You have beautiful girls and they are so cute :) Hang in there!!!

You could do your own version of what I've started telling people when asked about infertility treatments "Can I quote you on that...I'm writing a book on idiotic and insensitive things people say to someone going through fertility treatment" Stops em dead in their tracks every time!
ReplyDeleteI think you handled yourself very graceful. More so than the people deserved to be treated! My daughter is expecting twins (GIRLS) in June! We are THRILLED at the thought of being blessed with TWO, not just one. I think that God chooses people like you and my daughter for special reasons. It is a little "extra" icing on the cake! You had mentioned in the posting below about a group MoM. Could you please give me some info so that I can pass in along to my daughter. God bless you and your beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. I wrote a post on this just the other day and included a picture of a shirt we should all wear when taking our children out in public.
ReplyDeleteYou go ahead and vent. You deserve it. People sometimes just feel the need to say SOMETHING, even if it's completely idiotic. And multiples make everyone curious. The fact that you didn't throttle anyone means you have WAY more control that I would. And I don't have any multiple births...just 3 going on 4 children. (And no, that wasn't me in the waiting room;)! How are the girls doing according to the nutritionist? All sounds good to me!
ReplyDeletei like putting my girl in blue. i have stopped telling people she is a girl. they are strangers i will never see again. i see no point in correcting them.
ReplyDelete-the mom of 4 was jealous
-dad is a jerk, just a diaper, jeez
-she's just a bitch, agree totally
-i really really hope you helped that girl out. we saw young people pregnant a few times going to the doctor and just about died, i mean, we felt incompetent at almost 30. how must those kids feel?
People can say the most insensitive things sometimes. Ugh! We have one new pink/gray carseat and one used (by my older daughter) blue/tan plaid carseat. People CONSTANTLY assume we have boy/girl twins despite being covered in head-to-toe pink just because of the carseat color. For that reason alone, I'll be so happy when they've outgrown the infant carseats. I'm so tired of it!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, those comments! But you also get the nice ones - like, my twins are now 30 and what a joy it's been for me (from a lady in the grocery store queue).
ReplyDeleteNote to self: Stop complaining about being housebound with the twins and toddler. I could be out in public dealing with morons like you had to. Vent away!
