Basically, the difference between the length and width of her head should be about 20-30mm different. However, hers is only a 4mm difference. The doctor said that even with a cranial band, her head will probably only ever be 15mm - which is not noticable at all. Also, he pointed out her torticollis has made her eyes, cheeks and ears off kilter with her face. He is also recomending a neck brace to be worn for a few hours a day. My poor, poor child. The bad news - my insurance doesn't cover the helmet and it is going to be $2,850 out of my pocket. We are ordering one in pink next week, and it should be ready to pick up the following week.
And here is a cute picture of my precious children

WoW...that machine looks so cool :) Can't believe it took the scans. Both girls are perfect and will be for the rest of their lives! Yes there will be some hurdles, but the girls are PERFECT!

I was trying to leave you a comment and my computer went buserk and opened your blog page like 12 times..so if you have a site meter and you see my IP address show up a bunch of times I promise I'm not a weirdo!! Anyhow, one of my twin boys had the same thing, although they didn't get us the helmet....nearly got there but I think they were more conservative about this type thing 9 years ago. If you look at him closely you can tell a little, probably easier to see since he has short hair, but Audrey's hair will cover up a lot. Her face is so sweet no one will notice it there either. Sorry to hear insurance won't cover it...that stinks.
ReplyDeleteyour girls are too cute! i'm sorry your insurance wont cover it, but it seems like you got some good news :)
ReplyDeleteThat stinks that your insurance won't cover it. Your girls are so beautiful! I love this newest photo. Adorable jeans with the pink tie-belt! Glad to hear she was such a trooper at the appointment.
ReplyDeleteOh my word, thats expensive. She'll be the cutest lil baby rocking that expensive pink helmet though!!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree that its not noticable at all. I dont have any idea which baby is supposed to be 'off kilter' because they both look fine! can you use the neck brace only at night or something? i cant imagine that would be fun during the day. and my baby got 'cathed' the other day and didnt make a sound. I think it has to do with how tough their mommies are and how solid you are for them. the less you fear, the less they fear.
ReplyDeleteHope you don't mind a little "ass-vice" from another twin mom...
ReplyDeleteHave you talked with Easter Seals? One of my daughters had about a year of OT for her torticollis -- she ended up with no lasting effects or tilting of her features. Our OT used craniosacral therapy -- VERY gentle and very effective. And covered fully by insurance and ES grants.
Just something to think about if you haven't already. We got a referral from our pedi.
What's this neck brace you speak of? I'm going to page you on our board!
ReplyDeleteHi! I think that I told you before that my son had one of the Star Bands. Luckily my insurance paid for it...so we only had to pay less than $300. I am sorry that you aren't as lucky. That is a lot of money...but it will be worth it! My son is now 4 and his head looks amazing! If you check out my blog scroll down to his birthday post and you can see a picture of him in it. We decorated it numerous times with different stickers...but it always said "under construction."
ReplyDeleteGosh, your girls are both beyond adorable!
ReplyDeleteI know what you're going through with the torticollis - I went through that with my daughter, and it sucks. Good luck getting it handled!
Oh & just wanted to add - NO lasting effects at all for my daughter. I'm sure that yours will be fine as well!
