Suggestions Needed

Ok, so I need some help here! I've been bombarded with questions on what the girls might want or need for their birthday from family. Bryan and I have bought the girls the Anywhere Chair and a climber/slide thing. Bryan's mom is getting them the Cozy Coupe Car (in pink, of course!). What are some toys that toddlers like? What do your children love to play with?

  1. Hi! First, I can't believe your girls are almost 1! I found your blog through the nest and I remember reading about your pregnancy and waiting on pins and needles for the day that you delivered your girls...really is so amazing! To answer your question, my girls received this http://www.target.com/80-076600-V-Tech-Alphabet-Train-Station/dp/B0015399MG/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=0&searchView=grid5&pf_rd_r=1PFRZNCDVCQ9BTWJJS78&node=1038576&pf_rd_s=center-3&field_browse=1038576&searchSize=30&pf_rd_t=301&id=80-076600%20V-Tech%20Alphabet%20Train%20Station&field_availability=-2&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Ctarget_com_age%2Ctarget_com_gender-bin%2Ctarget_com_character-bin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&refinementHistory=target_com_age%2Csubjectbin%2Ctarget_com_gender-bin%2Ctarget_com_character-bin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchKeywords=vtech&pf_rd_p=490276191&searchNodeID=1038576&pf_rd_i=0&field_launch-date=-1y&searchRank=relevancerank&searchPage=1&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&field_keywords=vtech&field_target_com_age=12%20-%2018%20

We're hoping/hinting for a plastic wagon, like this one: http://tinyurl.com/num9wr

  3. Little people, little people, little people. We got my daughter the farm, tractor, bulldozer and more Noah's Ark animals for her first birthday (last week) and she loves them! She also really like the little people music parade ride-on. It's great for inside the house and makes lots of noise!

  4. Hasbro Playskool Ball popper

    FP Bounce and Spin Zebra

    FP Laugh and Learn Puppy

    Blocks

Hasbro Playskool Step Start Walk 'n Ride

    FP Interactive Baby Grand Piano

    Little Tikes Swing Along Castle

    Melissa & Doug puzzles

    Playskool Busy Poppin' Pals

    Busy Zoo Activity Center

    FP Toddlerz Chatter Telephone

    FP Alligator Xylophone

    Nest and Stack Buckets

My daughter doesn't have all of these, but a fair number of them and loves them. A few of the others are things that I put on her wishlist for her birthday. All are available on Amazon.

  5. My best friend has identical twin boys who are 14 months old. I recently went through the present buying challenge myself.

I ended up buying them each a pair of shoes, a CD of kid music, and then a joint gift of a year membership to the local Children's Museum.

I did a lot of wandering around stores and googling to make my choices. Other favorites that they seemed to really enjoy:

    - a play laptop (particularly if you spend any time on the computer in front of them)
    - a fun kid sprinkler
    - sandbox
    - xylophone and other musical toys

They already had a push-wagon which was a HUGE hit.

    Good luck and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  6. your girls already have 10 times what we've got in our house, so I'd be interested to see what you come up with. We are probably going to get ours a wagon, and are asking for very simple, non electronic toys like blocks, puzzles, stacking/nesting things and things to decorate her room with from her grandparents and such.

  7. My niece loved strollers, baby dolls, and her plastic fisher price type playground. I love anything in the Imaginary Play section of thelandofnod.com They have great stuff that will actually grow with the girls from 1-7 or so. The grocery shopping sets and kitchen sets are probably my favorites!

  8. PS My car seats were new, but I did get the Snap and Go from Craigslist. I don't believe I purchased from you, however.

  9. Honestly --
the #1 thing my guy needs for his birthday this year is clothes! Hard to believe, because we had so many mountains of clothing to last us from birth til right around now. But, he's too big for his pants now and we're leaving shorts/t-shirt season. So, I'm hoping for a lot more seasonal clothing.

And, maybe some Elmo or Baby Eintstein videos.

  10. I have 2 boys but at 1 they all like the same toys for the most part. My boys loved their Busy Ball Popper & Drop & Roar Dinosaur...my 2 y/o still loves them. Also you can NOT go wrong w/ a play kitchen. Good luck!

  11. That Fisher Price push toy that is a stroller with a baby doll in it. If I had a girl she would have this...

Blocks-- Carter is recently obsessed with blocks so we stocked up for a birthday present.

My in-laws are getting Carter the FP L&L House, but I know y'all already have the kitchen...

A wagon? I really wanted Carter to have a wagon so we got him this.

  12. I never, ever turn down books. My kids all love story time! Also, they seem to like the ball thing that shoots them out and then they spin around and drop in (I'm too lazy to go and look who made it. Either FP or Playskool).

And I can't believe no one has mentioned this so far, but they will really and truly play with the boxes and wrappings before they play with ANY of the toys :)

  13. My son just turned 1 and he got a ton of toys that just sit here. He actually got 3 push cars to help him learn to walk. If I could do it over again, I would ask for specific things such as clothes, diapers or savings bonds. Everyone loves to buy children toys, but at this age they are growing so fast, that more clothes would have been appreciated. I know in the future I will ask my guests to only get 1 toy if they must and ask for other things like diapers, clothes, baby einstein dvd's etc...Good Luck! Your girls are gorgeous and have the cutest clothes! :)

  14. Toys are great but I really believe you can have too many and most of them never get played with. This year I asked for a zoo membership because we love to go but it is SOOO expensive. Now we can go whenever we want and if we only spend an hour looking at one animal, we didn't waste $13 a person. I think any type of membership is great (children's museums, zoos, etc.). Could also do ask for some type of mommy & me class (music class, tumbling class, etc.).
