I'm Back!

I'm back!

The last week has been the most wonderful professional experience of my life. I've learned so many amazing ways to bring history alive in my classroom, received multiple sample lesson plans, books, primary sources, and even colonial artifacts. We honestly packed in at least a 3 week family vacation into one.

Yes, it was hard being away from my husband and children for a full week. It's the longest I've been apart from any of them. Talking on the phone was hard to do, too, because we literally were up and running from 7:30 am until almost 10:00 pm most nights.

If you are an educator, I highly recommend checking out history.org at the beginning of next year, when they'll have their applications available. The majority of us had full scholarships from donors, including airfare, and were fed 3 amazing meals a day (we're talking crab cakes & dessert here people, lol).

Taking A Break

I fly out tomorrow for a teacher institute in Colonial Williamsburg, and won't return until next Sunday. I don't plan on taking my laptop OR camera (gasp!). I've been in a blogging funk this summer anyway, so I figure the time off will do me some good. I'm going to miss my kids & husband like crazy, and even though I look forward to sleeping without multiple nightly interruptions, I have a feeling I'll still wake up at 1:30 & 4:30, lol.

Anyway, I'll leave y'all with some pictures of Corbin from a few days ago. I've already read him the riot act and told him he's not allowed to learn any new things while I'm away.

Pulling Up & Cruising

We're in a world of trouble. About two days after Corbin started to crawl, he started to pull up on stuff. And now little man doesn't really crawl, he ape walks. He also has started to cruise around holding onto his play table, furniture, and any unsuspecting person nearby. Audrey started pulling up at 10 months, and was walking shortly after 12. Natalie started pulling up at 11 months, and started walking at 22 months (she had a case of stubborn-itis). So we're now taking bets on when Corbin will walk!

The Best $2.50 Ever

Eddie picked this up at Lowes for the girls. It's plastic, with no sharp parts, and we can kink the hose to make the spray smaller. So now not only are the plants being watered, but the girls are having a blast, too.

Caesar's Head

Yesterday, we loaded up the kids around 9:30, and headed 45 minutes away to Caesar's Head. I love living in Greenville, because we are well within driving distance to some gorgeous mountains, lakes, and the ocean. It's the best of both worlds.

Anyway, there's a little waterfall that you can wade in about 8 miles from the top of Casear's Head, at a little roadside pull-off. We stopped there first, and the girls had the absolute best time.















We then drove the 8 miles to the top of Caesar's Head to look off the observation deck, and walk through the Devil's Kitchen. Some really nice old lady offered to take our family picture, and she actually got all 5 of us to look at the same time! Unfortunately, it was really foggy, so none of my pictures of the landscapes turned out all that great.

Ballet Class

Ok, so I've been sitting on these pictures for almost 2 weeks and am just now getting around to posting them. Oops?

I signed the girls up for a ballet class at our local church. It's only 4 Mondays for 45 minutes, but for $15 each, I really couldn't pass it up.

Unfortunately, we missed the first class while we were at the beach. And when we went to the second class, the girls already knew each other, so Natalie felt a bit out of place. And Audrey? She wouldn't uncling herself from my leg without an epic meltdown, so she watched with me from the window outside.

Natalie did SO well! She stood still and followed her teacher's instructions. I was so surprised because at home she has the attention span of a butterfly, lol.
